Monthly Awards - July & August 2022

Due to time getting away from us, we've condensed July and August awards into one!

Junior player of the month - July

July's Junior Player Of The Month goes to Noah Anderson.

A cricketer of few words, Noah has increasingly come out of his shell this season as his confidence has grown. It's all down to his own hard work, attending regularly in winter and across our Friday sessions.

A rapidly developing swinger of the ball, with genuine pace, he's taken a hatful of U13s wickets in July, and retired 30* with the bat for the first time in a mature showing at Milnrow.

He consistently puts the team first, as demonstrated by his phenomenal attitude in the field for the U15s, where he's gone from being largely fielding to being a potent bowling option. Taking 4 wickets across 2 U15s games shows his comfort at that level.

Senior player of the month – July

The Player of the month for July, is Mottram's palest man himself, Andrew Metcalfe. £20 bar credit for that man.

Fronting up at the top of the order, Metty had a rough start to the season, but has come back strong throughout July. His 2 scores of 80 & 86 against Friarmere & Westleigh respectively, ensured two vital wins in the month.

Total runs in July - 209

Team of the month - July

The Team Of The Month for July was our U13s.

After an encouraging but winless start to the season, July was the month where everything clicked into place for James Dadge's charges with 3 victories from 4 games.

First up, was a rip-roaring win at Milnrow where the U13s posted an imposing 107/4. One of their biggest scores of the season, it was built around two imperious 30* retirements from Thomas Norris and Noah Anderson. Milnrow in response were restricted to 69 all out with Callum Gardiner, Jiyah Simon and Thomas Norris chipping in with the wickets.

They took the momentum from that victory into a home fixture versus Thornham. 3fers from Ben Dadge and James Hardman restricted Thornham to 79. In response, Mottram CC were steered home by an imperious 30* from 32 by Patrick Hannon.

Finally, came an abandoned-but-we-are-claiming-it as a win against Moorside. Dan Dadge and Patrick Hannon once again scored freely and were on the verge of seeing us home when the heavens opened.

3 great performances providing a fitting end to the season, as James' enthusiastic and inexperienced side showed the progression they've made throughout the season.

Junior player of the month - August

August's Junior Player Of The Month goes to James Starr.

James has spent the majority of the season as a vital wicket taking option for our Under 15s and 4th XI. Having taken 10 wickets across these teams, he made the step up to the 3rd XI.

He's taken this opportunity with both hands, taking 5 wickets across 3 matches in August - including 2 wickets in a tense 3rd XI T20 final in front of a packed MCC terrace against Coldhurst.

Honourable mentions for August go to a number of juniors for their strong performance in senior cricket. These include: Tilly Corless (6 wickets in 2 games), Oliver Bambroffe (5 wickets in 2 games), Daniel Crudden (>100 runs in 3rd XI) and Jude Starkey (>80 runs across 3 games opening the batting).

Senior player of the month - August

The player of the month for Augustm, is Mottram's angriest man himself, Oliver Andrew, who also receives £20 bar credit.

The all-rounder has picked up 9 wickets coupled with 125 runs in 4 games throughout the month.

Perhaps the most telling contribution was at home to top of the league Elton, where 4 wickets from his 14 overs, helped bowl Elton out for 200, and ensured a very imporant scalp in the battle for survival.

Total runs - 125.

Total wickets - 9

A very honoruable mention for Ryan Fitton, who took 12 wickets in August including two 5fers, one of those coming in the aforementioned over Elton. £10 bar credit for Ryan.

Team of the month - August

The undisputed Team of The Month for August was the 4th XI, who went on a barnstorming run to win 4 fixtures out of 4. The winning run started with a trip to Compstall where Marple 4s were vanquished thanks to runs from Sam Faz (51*) and Jude (31).

This was followed by a trip to Barnton, who were made to suffer in the baking heat with Daniel Crudden, Dave Green and Sam Bennett all reaching 50*. Oliver Bambroffe (3fer), SMB and Tahseen Syed did the damage with the ball to ensure an earlyish finish.

Next, the 4s delivered comprehensive victories in two home games. Sale CC were restricted to 140 thanks to the brilliance of Oliver Bambroffe (3fer) and Tilly Corless (3fer). In response, Jude Starkey scored early runs to set a platform. Mark Hannon and Mitch Wood shared a 30 partnership to see us home after a minor leg spin induced wobble.

Finally in August, Runcorn made the trip to the Sapphire MCG. Tilly Corless repeated her new trick and took another 3fer. Daniel Dadge did the same, just to keep her company. A 50-odd run partnership from junior Will Davis and weary veteran Sam Bennett completed the run chase.

A fantastic month which ended with confirmation that the 4s will be playing league cricket next year. Love it.
