Chair's Newsletter - July 2023

We’ve reached the the half way point of the season this week, which has brought about this mid-season newsletter!

Cricket

It’s really pleasing to see the First Team on a brilliant roll at the moment. They’re joint third in the league and there is a very real chance of promotion to Step 2/Prem 2, which is a really good standard. I wish Ryan and all the boys the best of luck between now and the end of the season.

The Second Team are in the top half of the table and the highest local placed team. In previous years, we would be still looking down, we are now looking up and aiming for as high a finish as possible. There is still some consistency to find, both in results and performance.

The Third Team has been fractured through selection and weather. However, I had the pleasure to umpire a great victory at Ashton Ladysmith the other week and there are many green shoots of optimism. We’re all focusing on a strong 2nd half of the season, to move up the table.

The Fourth Team have won all but one game, only faltering last week at New Mills. Lots of debuts have been given to junior players. I was involved in the debut’s of Noah Anderson and Eesa Ansari at Birch Vale a few weeks ago, and it was brilliant to be a part of.

The Juniors programme continues at pace, with the respective sides breaking off into their performance leagues. Parents are doing the miles and the children are doing the hard yards! We have had some great individual and team performances. There is so much to shout about and so we have a dedicated junior round up, which will can be found here.

The Over 40’s have been plodding along, again hampered by the weather at times. It is great to see such a big pool of players involved. Long may it continue.

The Women’s Team sit 5th, with a few games to catch up on, they will be hoping to play their way up the table. Their games continue right into August.

Committee Structure

The new club structure has been in place just over 6 months now. For the most part, it is working. However, to really help the club thrive we need more volunteers across the club.

If you can help the club in anyway, no matter how big or small, please step forward. This could be on the ground, or this could be behind the scenes.

We have roles which require all sorts of skills you may have and not realise the club needs help with such as: social media, membership administration, marketing, catering, finance, gardening and so much more!

As it stands, the bulk of the work is being shouldered by too few people and we need to change that.

Bar & Licensing

This summer has been as busy as ever so far, with something on the ground most evenings or days, which is great to see.

Going forward, Adie Davis will be stepping down as Designated Premises Supervisor (what you might know as the licensee), to be replaced by myself as soon as practicable in the coming weeks. Adie will still continue his role at the club however.

We now have a few new measures in place to ensure we continue to meet the license objectives with the council, which we politely ask you be mindful of. Please know that the below is not meant to annoy anyone. It is merely to advise and inform everyone of the situation.

Unaccompanied and Accompanied Children

Unaccompanied children should depart the premises as follows:

U16's - 9pm, unless playing in a fixture.

U18's -  10pm

Children accompanied by an adult, should depart the premises as follows:

U16's - 10pm

U18's -  11pm

Patio Area

We all know the Patio area is a great space for socialising and enjoying the last of sun in an evening.

We will invite anyone still outdoors on the patio at 10pm to instead come indoors. This is to ensure no noise disturbances for our neighbours.

Closing Times, Last Entry, Last Orders and "one for the road"!

The club closing and last entry times are as follows:

  • Friday & Saturday evenings - 00:30 closing / 22:30 last entry
  • Sunday to Thursday evenings - 23:30 closing / 22:00 last entry

Last orders at the bar is 30 minutes before closing time. Also, the club is not licensed to sell “carry outs”. Please don't ask your staff for drinks to take home with you.

When leaving the club, by car or walking, please respect your neighbours by doing so a quietly as possible.

From time to time, the club may apply for a Temporary Event Notice (TEN), to extend the hours for notable events.

Challenge 25 Policy

The club operates the challenge 25 policy. Please take it as a compliment if we ask for your ID!
The purchasing of alcohol by anyone over the age of 18 for consumption by anyone under the age of 18 is strictly prohibited.

~

It’s a useful time to remind everyone that we are all in it together. Please be mindful of your actions around the club and take positive actions where you can.

If you see something not quite right, please raise it to the staff or a committee member

If you see a door that needs locking, please shout.

Please be responsible for equipment, cricketing or glassware etc, that you use and make every effort to put return it.

The club is a great place to be a part of, both on and off the field. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members, parents, senior players and juniors for what has been a great start to the season all around the club.

See you on the patio (but not after 10pm)

Beechy.
