The U9s have only had two sets of fixtures go ahead so far, a home event at Mottram and a short trip to Denton West.
At home, the Reds delivered a run-fest to muscle their way past Droylsden but the Blues fell short against Micklehurst despite some big hitting from Al. At Denton West, both teams won one and lost one facing off against Denton West’s two sides.
The U11s have been among the more fortunate, weather wise.
The U11s Softball side sit in midtable with a record of 1 win, 1 loss. First up were Stand who took full advantage of short boundaries to unleash some power-hitting. Despite 2 wickets for Leo and 1 for George, Stand scored 98. With the bat we fell just short, a remarkable partnership from Iris (25 off 15) and Kiki (14 off 10) not enough to save us.
We put it right the week after though with Swinton Moorside restricted to 69. Kiki took 3 wickets and George bowled another tidy spell for 1 for 5. Runs from Al (10) and Haris (16) getting us home.
For the U11s hardball team, it’s 3 wins from 3. An opening day win at Glossop has been followed by wins against Hadfield and Woodley. Runs have been shared out which is pleasing to see. Dan and Eggsy were the highest scorers v Hadfield with Tom F then scoring 14 v Woodley. Kiki, Haris and Niamh have all taken 3fers so far, and Niamh sits joint-top of the league wicket-taking charts so far.
Next up for the 11s weather permitting is a trip to Glossop.
The U13s have only completed 1 game so far, but what a thriller it was!
Up against Glossop at home, the U13s were under the pump early on with their opener retiring on 30* and their #4 getting a quick 28.
An excellent opening spell from Jack, 2 wickets for Niamh and a sharp run-out slowed their scoring, but they still reached an imposing 113.
In response, Patrick retired 32* and new signing Taylor showed real power to hit 4 fours and 2 sixes enroute to an impressive 33* on MCC debut. Isaac, also on debut, provided a vital 13 runs at #7 that left William and Eggsy requiring 5 from the last over. Courtesy of a truly heroic dive for the crease, and some bonus overthrows, we got there on the last ball.
After some weather enforced breaks, the 13s hope to be back in action on 2nd June.
The U15s have delivered two encouraging displays so far, at Glossop and then at home to DSL.
Against Glossop, excellent opening spells from Noah and Callum left Glossop 30 for 5 and temporarily reeling. A lower order salvo though took them to 129 and victory.
Last Monday’s home tie v DSL saw Noah, Tom N, Tom H and James H all bowl well to secure one wicket apiece and restrict DSL’s scoring ability. They reached 107.
Despite a spirited 32 from Tom N opening up, the Mottram innings finished 15 short on 92 from our 20 overs. Valuable support came in the form of partnerships with Tom H (11 off 34) and Noah (10 from 18). Their next anticipated action is away to Dukinfield.
Saturday 26th May saw the Girls Soft Ball team begin their season at home to Didsbury. Asked to bat first, Mottram set a total of 65. Megan bludgeoned her way to 20* courtesy of 4 fours and Lucy and Iris added valuable extra runs in Pair 4.
There were wickets for C Fletch, Megan and Emily as we chipped away at regular intervals. A shout out too for Earsla, making an impressive start on debut with the ball. Didsbury in the end, winning by 15. The girls go again on the 8th June against the same opposition.
The U18s are yet to begin their campaign due to exams and weather conspiring against us.
