After largely spending April watching it rain sideways, May has been a hive of activity for Mottram's junior section.
Both U9s teams have got off to strong starts this season, with the Reds losing only once so far and the Blues already racking up more wins than they did throughout the whole 2022 campaign. William Fielding's runs and George Kelly's wickets have been notable highlights so far.
The 11s Hardball team have carried on where they left off last season and have won all 3 league games and defeated Droylsden in Round 2 of the Lancashire Cup. Patrick Hannon leads the way with the bat and is yet to be dismissed this season. Fergus Mason-Penny and his shiny new run-up have been virtually unplayable. In the 11s Softball league, we have 1 won, lost 1 with plenty of games still to come.
The U13s are proving to be a really strong bowling unit and have won 2 of their 4 so far. Close wins at Hyde and Droylsden requiring nerves of steel and contributions from across the team. Callum Gardiner leads the way with the ball, taking 5 wickets @ 10 to date. Skipper Norris leads the runs chart with 59.
The U15s are still searching for a 1st win but recent games v Greenfield and Werneth have shown signs of promise. At Greenfield we have a stubborn 20-over knock from Stanley (8*) and a joint first 15s wicket (Patrick Hannon) and first 15s stumping victim (Ella Owen). Against Werneth, we fell short but were treated to strong knocks from Daniel Dadge and Thomas Norris (34*) to help us set a competitive 122.
The U18s have been virtually non-existent as they fight off the ravages of A-Levels and GCSEs, but rest assured there's lots of cricket to come for them in June and July.
Congratulations are in order for a number of Mottram juniors too, who have been selected for District or County Representative sides:
